As the organization which holds the conservation easement on the Stanley Rehder Carnivorous Plant Garden, and wishing to maintain Stanley Rehder’s legacy of preservation and educational efforts on behalf of our community’s rare carnivorous plants, we are outraged by the recent theft of Venus' Flytraps from the garden. In our role as stewards of the property, we take this easement violation and illegal act of poaching very seriously and are working with the City of Wilmington to create a management plan that will restore flytraps to the garden and implement security measures at the park to discourage the theft of these incredible native plants.
Our friends, supporters, and outraged carnivorous plant advocates from across the world have been vocal in their desire to bring awareness to the theft and to rebuild and protect the home of these beautiful and unique plants. As a result, we are now accepting donations for The Flytrap Fund.
Your tax deductible gift to the Coastal Land Trust’s Flytrap Fund will allow us to offer a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the theft of the plants at the Rehder Garden; help restore the flytraps in the garden and provide additional protections; enhance the security at the Rehder Garden and other NCCLT preserves where Venus' Flytraps are found; and assist with our conservation work in southeastern NC on habitats well-suited for the growth of Venus' Flytraps.
