Nature Hike - Saturday September 23

Nags Head Woods Ecological Preserve is considered one of the best remaining examples of a mid-Atlantic maritime forest with deciduous hardwoods. This pine and hardwood forest harbors trees up to 500 years old.  The preserve is an important nesting area for more than 50 species of birds.  An extensive marsh system bordering Roanoke Sound on the western side of the preserve supports a wealth of wildlife including river otter, egrets, herons, and many species of migratory waterfowl.

Nature expert Aaron McCall, Northeast Regional Steward for The Nature Conservancy, will guide walkers on an hour and a half walk on some of the walking trails in Nags Head Woods.

Meet at The Nature Conservancy Visitors' Center.  Turn west off Highway 158 onto Ocean Acres Drive near Milepost 9.5.  Drive through a residential subdivision for a mile until you reach the visitors' center.  Hiking boots or tennis shoes are recommended.
