HAVELOCK - Havelock and Allies for Cherry Point's Tomorrow were recognized by the North Carolina Coastal Land Trust on Monday with conservation awards.
Land Trust Deputy Director Janice Allen presented the awards to Allies for Cherry Point's Tomorrow President and Havelock Mayor Jimmy Sanders to publicly recognize work done to protect valuable natural areas and waters.
Allen publicly recognized ACT, a non-profit group formed by area county, municipal, and civic groups to protect the interests and longevity of MCAS Cherry Point, with the N.C. Coastal Land Trust Conservation Award for its work in also helping protect those natural areas and waterways.
She recognized the City of Havelock for its cooperation in completing land acquisitions work to protect Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point and its practice ranges as the trust acquired the Boulia Tract and other areas. The city provided a conservation easement.
