Our North Carolina coast is blessed with barrier islands, bountiful waters, lush forests, family farms, diverse wildlife, and pristine beaches. As our region attracts new families, retirees, vacationers, and second-home builders, development pressure has reached fever pitch. Each day we lose 34 acres on development on the coast. The North Carolina Coastal Land Trust, led by the Tidewater Society, balances our economic development by protecting the natural beauty and quality of life that draw us to the coast.

Mr. Michael Murchison
THE TIDEWATER SOCIETY of the North Carolina Coastal Land Trust is the vanguard of coastal conservation in our state. Established in 2005, the Tidewater Society consists of the Coastal Land Trust's most generous and important donors: those who give $1,000 or more in a single year to support our annual fund. It is only through their leadership that the Coastal Land Trust has protected more than 30,000 acres in only 12 years - the best overall record of any local land trust in the state.
THE PHILANTHROPIC HEROES of the Tidewater Society literally keep the Coastal Land Trust running. While we successfully obtain property donations and grants to purchase land, it is the Tidewater members who contribute the mainstay of our annual fund. They provide the critical dollars for land negotiations and stewardship. Their donations are leveraged exponentially to attract competitive grants to purchase land and easements.
AS LEADING BENEFACTORS of the Coastal Land Trust, members of the Tidewater Society are offered unique opportunities to become intimately acquainted with the land trust's work. They are invited as honored guests to special receptions, dedication events, and private tours of the beautiful preserves they helped to save for future generations.
